The blog entry I meant to make a week ago...
Friday was a great day. I left work early to hit great america with
the Makena folks. They even gave me 2 tickets, so I invited Huyen,
who I hadn’t seen in a while to come join me. So, we hit some roller
coasters, and the drop zone. Man, free fall is scary. Palm sweaty.
Screaming. Yeah. Fun. I spent about 3 1/2 hours there. It was really
warm and sunny on Friday, and a great day to be at the park. It was
hot, but not too hot for me. The water ride lines were really long,
but since I was wearing jeans, and was headed to the city afterwards,
I wasn’t too keen on getting soaked down.
Left Great America at 6pm to head up to the city and catch up with
Cyan and have a FABULOUS multi-course dinner in thanks for me helping
her move a few weeks ago. Well, partly for that, partly for other
things. Anyway, the dinner was simply amazing. 3 hours, each course
paired with wine.
After that, I was getting tired. I’d been out the night before with
Wren, and got a little dehydrated. Suffered from an irregular
heartbeat all night, so didn’t sleep particularly well. But, the
heartbeat went away at like 6:30 in the morning, so I felt good all
day, even at great america on the scary rides.
Sooo… Cyan was catching up with Scott after dinner to watch Charlie
& the Chocolate Factory. I headed over to the Metreon with her to
wait for Scott, then I was going to head home. BUT … when Scott got
there, they had an extra ticket, so I elected to stay up super-late
and catch the movie with them. It was an enjoyable flick, I have to
say.
Headed home, and got some sleep. Unfortunately, the amazingly slow
contractors next door got to work at 8:00 sharp on Saturday morning,
so no sleeping in for me. Instead I lazed around the house for a few
hours, then got on my bicycle to go for a ride. I decided it was time
to test my hill climbing strength, and tried to ride up Crestview to
the Hengevelds’ house. Man, once you turn off of edgewood, you soon
hit the stretch of 10% grade. It’s too much for me. I had to stop
halfway up and wait in the shade of a tree for like 5 or 10 minutes to
allow my pulse to go back down, then hop back on and claw my way back
up the hill. Once you hit the stop sign, though, things drop down to
like a 6% grade, which I can ride without my pulse spiking too high.
Unfortunately, when I got up to the hengevelds they were out of town,
so I didn’t get to chat with them face to face, but I gave them a call
and let them know I made it up there. Talking to Judith, apparently
crestview is a pretty nasty stretch of road to ride. She claims she’d
rather ride King’s Moutntain up to Skyline rather than ride up
Crestview just once. So, that’s heartening. I might just be able to
get up and over before the end of summer.
The rest of saturday was spent lazing around the house. Woot. Lazy.
Nappy.
